Essence Midwifery acknowledges the Wurundjeri people as the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the land, sky and waters, and pay respect to Elders; past, present. We extend this respect to all First Nations people on whose Country we live, birth and raise children.
We acknowledge the ongoing leadership, resilience and commitment of First Nations’ people who continue to fight for their right to safe and culturally appropriate experiences of pregnancy, birth and postpartum, and we commit to continuing to explore our own role in that journey.
Lastly, we honour and celebrate the ancient birthing knowledge and practices that have existed on this Country for thousands of years – may this wisdom continue to nurture life for many generations to come.
About
Essence Midwifery is a Private Practice Homebirth service providing Antenatal Care, Birth and Lactation Education, and Postnatal Care based out of the Yarra Valley.
Our practice is grounded in a deep understanding of the physiological process of birth, belief in educated and autonomous decision making, respect and consent based care, and recognition of the immense physical and spiritual change that takes place in the birthing journey.

Building trust and connection: Developing a trusting relationship with your private midwife is paramount for your birthing experience.
Education: During your appointments your midwife will provide the latest information; including education and resources for you to make informed choices of care.
Mother & Baby check; awareness of a women’s pregnancy is developing well, observing blood pressure and fundal growth, and baby’s growth, movements
Childbirth Eduction : For you and your support to have an understanding of your body’s anatomy and physiology for labour and birth will assist in feeling prepared and excited for labour and birth.

Information, guidance and preparation regarding emotional and physical changes as your labour winds and unravels the ‘stages’
Physical preparation and becoming ‘birth fit’ basic yoga and breathwork exercises
Spinning Babies: As a Spinning Babies Awareness Practitioner I love to provide an appointment with your special support person to learn some beautiful positioning exercises to practice throughout your pregnancy together and use in early labour together.
Around 34-38 wks of pregnancy your appointment will include breastfeeding education; how to hand express colostrom and safe storage, benefits of 1000 hrs of skin to skin, baby crawl, swaddling, feeding and cord blood.

This is a private treatment in your home or at Essence Midwifery.
The internal release work session includes external body balance and alignment then internal fascia release.
